About National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra

NIT Kurukshetra was founded in 1963 as one of the regional technical colleges of India. Today, this institute is a deemed University that is governed by both Center and the Haryana state government. The sprawling 300 acres of campus area is just apt enough to house libraries, laboratories, equipments, lecture halls, and auditorium. There is also a bank, post office, and a dedicated health center to cater to the staff and students who reside in this campus.

It was way back in the third Five-Year Plan that NIT Kurukshetra was grouped with 17 such regional colleges across India to impart both engineering and technical courses to aspiring students. Previously, this institute offered B.Sc degrees in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical engineering subjects. Later, more specialized subjects, such as Electronics and Telecommunication and Instrumentations were brought into the curriculum.

In 1985, NIT Kurukshetra got a green signal to offer B.Tech and M.Tech courses. Special degree in Engineering was also offered for sometime by the state government. In 2002, it became a deemed University and was rechristened from REC Kurukshetra to NIT Kurukshetra. Since then, the premier Engineering and Technical institute has entered into different fields of learning. There are MBA and MCA programs, Industrial Management degrees, water resources diplomas, and many such more diverse learning programs. All these programs are at Undergraduate, Post Graduate, and Research levels.

Students flock in large numbers each year to secure a seat at this premier institute. Not only does it have an excellent faculty, the ambience is also apt enough to nurture learning and research. There are two residential sectors and one instructional complex that are placed in between the sectors. Interspersed among these buildings are well maintained pathway, gardens, sports complex, bank, post office, and similar useful establishments.

The main objective of NIT Kurukshetra is to enhance the interactions between the academic people with the experts from the industry. The management also wants to increase the testing, reviewing, and consultancy services of the institute so that the industry can get the benefit of the research work and study that is done in at NIT Kurukshetra.

Students studying here need to reside at the hostel, prepare a practical workshop related project, and visit industry sites to gain hands-on experience. Today, the deemed University can now conduct examinations independently, invite companies for placement interviews, and confer degrees to the students passing out from the institute. The mode of examining the candidates is done through Credit Based Examination System.

Today, NIT Kurukshetra has evolved a lot to keep up with the growing trend in the market. In the age of technology and Information, it is important offer updated technology in a medium that is well accepted by the majority of the students. NIT Kurukshetra is able to achieve this endeavor through e-resources, Indian National Digital Library in Engineering Science and Technology (INDEST) Consortium, journals, and books. There are intranet facilities, search engines, digital resources, and technologically enhanced research work to cater to the needs of the students and the staff. No wonder, NIT Kurukshetra is a prestigious alma mater which has been churning efficient alumni each year.
